John Renison was born and raised in Calexico and graduated from Calexico High School in 1966. He is proud to say that the high school band marched in the Rose Parade in 1964. He went on to earn a B.A. from the University of San Diego in 1971. He was then inducted into the U.S. Army and served as a Military Police Officer in Saigon, Vietnam from 1971 thru spring of 1972. Renison went on to receive his Master of Public Administration from SDSU-IV Campus.
Upon his return, he worked in local radio during the early seventies on a local station called KAMP. To this day he is recognized for his early work as an on air personality. Renison became General Manager of the Calexico Chamber of Commerce during the late seventies and served as Executive Director of the Imperial County Private Industry Council in 1980. He has hosted local television and radio interview programs usually on a volunteer basis. Renison believes in giving back to the community.
During his tenure at San Diego State University, Renison decided to enter the political field in 1996 and ran successfully for a seat on the Calexico City Council. There, he served three terms until 2008 and then decided to enter the county scene and became the Supervisor for District 1 representing the border area in January 2011.
Renison is committed to job creation and working in concert with the Board to better our economic climate and attract permanent good paying jobs. Renison is married to Ana Rosa and he has two sons. He enjoys movies, dining in Mexicali and meeting with his constituents.
